Mitotane for Dogs - (mye-toe-tane) - Adrenal Cytotoxic; Antineoplastic
Same active ingredient as Lysodren® Uses- Mitotane is primarily used to treat pituitary dependent Cushing’s disease (hyperadrenocorticism) in dogs. Mitotane has the potential for serious side effects and should be monitored with ACTH stimulation testing at least 2-3 times a year. Mitotane’s oral absorption can be improved by administering with food that is high in oil/fat content. Your patient should always have prednisone tablets on hand in case of an emergency situation in which the veterinarian is not available.
Cushing’s disease is stressful enough for your patients; why not make the medicating easy and fun. Specialty Veterinary Pharmacy can compound Mitotane into a variety of dosage forms and flavors that your patients will love.
Mitotane is normally available in a 500mg tablet called Lysodren®.
SVPMEDS can compound Mitotane into any strength capsule you need no matter the patient size.
We can also formulate Mitotane in a soft flavored chewable which means NO hidden pill inside! They come in a variety of flavors like chicken, beef, and liver. We also have LID (limit ingredient diet) flavors like turkey, lamb & rice and green peas & duck for those pets with food allergies.
If a chewable is not for your pet we can also make a delicious flavored oral liquid available in chicken, fish, beef, and liver flavor made in an almond oil base to promote oral absorption.
