Ursodiol for Cats and Dogs - (ur-soe-dye-ole) - Bile Acid
Same active ingredient as Actigall® and Ursodeoxycholic Acid
Uses - Commonly used in small animals (i.e. cats & dogs) as adjunctive therapy for the management of cholesterol-containing gallstones and/or in patients with chronic liver disease associated with cholestasis.
Adverse effects - well tolerated in dogs and cats
Administration - ursodiol should be given with food and capsules may be sprinkled on food.
Contraindications - ursodiol can be toxic and cause severe liver damage in rabbits and other hindgut fermenters. It should not be given with acetaminophen do to risk of liver damage. Contact our pharmacist for questions about uses, indications, adverse effects, drug interactions, and dosing.
